Kenai tried to kill me!
Okay, not really, but I was gone all weekend - down home - and it seriously was not the best of weekends.
The drive down on Friday was awesome. Some of the best weather we've had all year. It was gorgeous, and I vowed that if the weather was nice on the drive back to Anchorage I'd take it slower and take photos along the way (which I did end up doing!). I get into Soldotna and call the house - no answer, okay, no biggie. So I call mom on her cell and she was coming back from dropping dad off at Glacier where his truck was getting serviced. They'd just gotten done with Mr Cary's brother's funeral - daddy sang - and mom was a wreck. Not only was a friend gone before his time - but there was some very bad news about Tesa and Steve's little boy Seth. He was in a coma and it didn't look good. No one outside of their family knew this was going on so mom was not in a good state of mind.
I get to the house and we go about getting supper ready because Mr. Phil and a friend of his had a moose that they needed to finish cutting up to package and all of that. Yay for gore in the evening, eh? They didn't get done until after 1am!!!! And since it's a small house and voices carry easily - I stayed up with them. Blah!
Thankfully I did sleep in a bit (got up around 9) but I was tired and dragging by the time Kim's wedding rolled around.
But it was a pretty somber day other than that because we'd gotten a call the night before saying that Seth was 'gone' and that they were just waiting to say goodbye before taking him off the ventilator.
It was just rough. Seth's Grandparents were at church today which was a surprise, I don't think anyone expected them to be, but they seem to be doing as well as can be expected. Dad sang Bow the Knee which is what he sang at the funeral on Friday and lost it. He said no matter where he seemed to look all he could see was Jim Allemann (Seth's grandpa). Bow the Knee is about trusting God in the difficult times. So it was a very... well... yeah...
Other than that the 'rents' computer is down so I couldn't get online so now I'm having to filter through quite a few emails and webpages. oy.
But enough of that for tonight, going to bed now!
Seth Ryker Sturman was born with Crouzons Syndrom, a genetic defect that effects the growth of the bones in the skull and face. Seth has had 8 surgeries as of September 08 including:
- Repair of Pyloric Stynosis
- VP Shunt
- Repair of Groinal Hernias
- Restructure of back of Skull
- Removal of Tonsils and Adnoids
- Restructure of front of Skull (pulling forhead out 1" - 1 1/2")
- Repair of Chiari Malformation
- Lefort III, Rigid Extraction Device
Seth passed away on September 26, 2008 after his most recent procedure. He got a blockage that restricted his breathing, which caused his brain to swell, which then caused blood flow to stop in the brain. This left Seth in a permanent coma.
Seth was a happy child and always in good spirits despite his condition. He brought much joy to those who were able to meet him and will be missed immensely by his friends and family.
His parents, Steve and Tesa, loved Seth very much and although they had a hard journey they always stayed positive knowing that God is in control of everything.
